Thank you to our amazing 13 volunteers for working hard yesterday morning at Hendre Lake. We were maintaining the pathways with the Park Ranger for the safety of the lakes visitors but also for the flowers and pollinators.

Whilst using shears and loppers, we cut back encroaching vegetation, like bramble, nettles and blackthorn, from along the western pathways, Hendre Road lane entrance and the lookout steps.

Everyone can pass through easier now without worrying about getting caught, and, in more good news, the work we are doing by cutting the bramble back regularly, we are seeing more and more flowers emerging along the edges of the paths.

This is fantastic to see and a great result of the work we've put in as we are seeing a wider diversity of flowers that are suitable for various types of bees, butterflies, beetles and other pollinators, like the pictured Shrill Carder Bee that we spotted after our volunteer session. Have you managed to spot this bee recently? It's only found in a few areas in Wales!
Thank you again to everyone who joined us. It was great to chat to a few local people too about what we are doing at Hendre Lake and other local green spaces as Conservation Volunteers of St Mellons & Trowbridge

western side of the lake.
