The sun was shining for our volunteer session at our stunning Hendre Lake this morning.

18 volunteers planted 85 whips into gaps within our hedgerow that we planted last year. 25 rowan whips
15 crab apple whips
20 hazel whips
25 alder buckthorn whips
We also planted some in clusters in the meadow . Some volunteers also cut back bramble and litter picked .

We planted 8 Black Poplar trees behind the War Memorial.
1 feather sized black poplar (male)
7 small black poplar (female)
Welsh Black Poplar trees are quite rare now. They have been disappearing rapidly since the 19th Century. With sadly only 200 trees left in Wales. They thrive in damp plains so this meadow site at Hendre Lakes is ideal for them. We are lucky to have managed to get them here and we are very much looking forward to watching them grow over the coming years. It was fantastic to have new faces again today. Thank you all for turning up and putting in the effort to plant more trees which will provide more food for wildlife and create more habitats for hundreds of species
Thank you to Paula Morgan Community Support at Tesco St Mellons for the donations of drinks and chocolates. It's very much appreciated.
