Volunteer Event Sun 5th July 2026 2.00pm - 4.00pm

We visited Melrose Park yesterday for our July volunteer session. Thank you to our 12 volunteers who gave their time and worked hard in the warm afternoon to help clear away vegetation and debris from along the pathways. It's now more accessible and safer for everyone to pass through.

This was our first visit to this conservation site, there were lots of butterflies around us as we worked including red admirals, peacocks, whites and speckled wood. The flowers are looking beautiful and so colourful at one of the parks entrances. This wildflower patch was created by our Park Ranger and a few volunteers. We are hoping to create more vibrant, pollinator friendly patches like this throughout Trowbridge and St Mellons, to help the bees and to brighten up our green spaces.

We used loppers and shears to cut back mostly bramble, dogwood and nettle, that was encroaching along the pathways. We then used rakes and brooms to collect and pile up the cuttings as habitat piles into the wooded area. The park ranger also carefully cut down some low, overhanging branches.

Some volunteers also scraped back a build up of mud and debris from these pathways using shovels and lots of muscle.

We accomplished a lot in 2 hours, thank you all for giving your time and effort to help look after our green spaces.
