We spent the morning at our beautiful Cath Cobb Woods. 14 of us joined the Park Ranger to help improve our Ancient Woodlands.

We concentrated on our glade area, cutting back encroaching bramble and other vegetation, all the way back to our dead hedge. We raked it all into a massive habitat pile. By removing all the cut vegetation this will give space and encourage all the native wildflowers, like the beautiful red campion, to thrive in this area. It will also help all the other flowers and bulbs that we have planted here in previous volunteer sessions, like Daffodils, Snakes Head Fritillary, Foxglove and Birds Foot Trefoil

A few of our volunteers tackled some willow trees that we are coppicing annually to keep this area open. A Painted Lady Butterfly was resting on one of these branches but our volunteer carefully moved her to a safe space.

2 of our volunteers spent their time litter picking throughout the woods, filling 7 big bags with all sorts of discarded food and drinks packaging, included lots of glass bottles.
We've also helped clear the vegetation from around the footpath gate entrance so people can walk through safely.
