Migrant Hawker

(Aeshna mixta)

Prefered habitat -

​

Breeds in standing water but may be found well 
away from water  hawking for insects along hedgerows or woodland edges. Can often be sited resting low in vegetation.

Local Site -

Hendre Lake   Business Park Pond

​

​

A small Hawker 63mm in length  with paired spots along the abdomen. Males are dark with blue spots and yellow flecks, females brown with yellow spots.


The Hawker takes flight from June - November
